salmon fishingFishing is one of the most popular activities in the area. The River Tay is famous for its salmon fishing - the UK record was caught here, a monster of 63lbs! Loch Tay is a popular venue for boat fishing - mostly trolling, but also fly-fishing. Trout and coarse fishing are also widely available. On the river salmon fishing can be obtained from Taymouth Castle Estate, while trout and coarse fishing is managed by local clubs including East Loch Tay Angling Club, Killin Angling Association, Aberfeldy Angling Association and Taymouth Angling Club.

Unlike England and Wales you do not need an Environment Agency Rod Licence, but you must get a permit from the owner or club. The Tay system is covered by a Protection Order which means that it is patrolled by bailiffs who enforce this law. Fly-fishing, spinning and worm fishing are all available. If you don't have your own tackle you can hire it from local shops.
