Swimming |

Swimming is not usually associated with the highlands of Scotland, but here in Breadalbane there is one spot where it is really popular on a hot summer's day - The beach at Kenmore. The prevailing winds blow from the south west here and it traps warm surface water on Loch Tay in a shallow bay at the east end. The water is no more than a couple of yards deep for a long way out. As a result the water can be quite warm. With free parking alongside the beach and ready made barbecue points it is a really popular spot in the summer. Guests at the Kenmore Club have their own swimming pool and visitors to the Taymouth cottages and the Kenmore Hotel may also use this facility. For those wanting a little more refinned action there is a proper swimming pool in Aberfeldy half a dozen miles away. If you are really fit then you might consider taking part in an Ironman event! A local Ironman competition regularly takes place in and around the Loch. |
