The Rock Lodge was built by the Breadalbanes as a home for the Chinese concubine of Lord Breadalbane. It is a listed category B building with a 19th century 'Gothic' circular tower with rustic masonry. Many places around Taymouth Castle have a Chinese flavour. The Chinese Bridge was built so that his Lordship did not have to travel all the way into the village to visit Rock Lodge (it must have been a regular occurrence!). There were also Chinese gardens, and the ball room in the Castle is called the Chinese room because of the silk tapestries and paintings on the ceilings. Rock Lodge is now only a remnant, and is looked after by the Forestry Commission. It must have been a damp, dank place to live as many springs emerge from Drummond Hill above it.

Along side the lodge you will find a small path which links into the Tay Forest Walks. Opposite is the original site the Church which was moved in the 16th century to its present location in the middle of the village. This is now used as a car park. From here you can walk along the North Terrace to Maxwells Tower and the Star Battery or across the Chinese Bridge to the South Terrace and the Castle
